The carmaker had recalled more than 36,000 cars last year, but a BBC Watchdog investigation found there may be similar problems in cars not covered by the initial action.
The recall effects the following cars
BMW 1 Series,
It includes all petrol and diesel models made between March 2007 and August 2011. These cars may be affected by an electrical fault which could cause the engine to cut out completely while on the road.
BMW have stated that customers will be contacted and that the work will take no more than 2 hours with no cost to customer.
Its not been a good week for BMW as they have recently had an advert for the XDrive all wheel drive system banned for promoting dangerous and irresponsible driving.
