5. Park in the shade
Prevention is better than cure as they say. So it really is common sense to park where the sun is not going to be directly into your car. How many times have you walked into the baking oven that was your car thinking why did I park there.
4. Crank those windows
When you get back to your car after a long hot day the dilemma is whether to bang on the A/C straight away or open the windows. Inside your cars cabin will be hot stuffy air on a hot day the A/C will have a hard enough job without having to get rid of all this accumulated hot air. Our suggestion would be to open your windows for a few minutes to release the air and give the A/C the best chance one you get going. If your car is secure it would be great If you could even leave your window cranked slightly throughout the day. Once on the move you can use your air condition on low to help force the hot air out by directing it to the footwells to force out the areas with low circulation. Once your air conditioning is getting cold wind up the windows and set your vents accordingly
3. Using the A/C correctly
Most modern cars have A/C the best way to use this when you initially get into the car use the recirculation feature to allow the car to get the cabin cooler quicker. This option uses the air that has already been cooled and processes it again to cool it down much quicker. This option should only be used for a short period until your car is cooled down as the air quickly gets stale with less oxygen and more moisture. Once the desired temperature is achieved switch back to normal mode to give you some fresh oxygenated air.
A lot of newer cars have an automatic function which uses sensors to monitor the cabin and recirculate or pull in fresh air when necessary.
2. Pointing to the right places
On a baking day your natural inclination is to point all the air to your face to cool down. This wont help your car cool down. Once your air conditioning is in full swing the best thing to do is to point your air vents upwards
1. Turn off the Stop/ Start Function
If your car does have the Start/ Stop Function you will find that it plays havoc with your air conditioning especially in heavy traffic. It’s a good idea to turn this off. This is also the same with ECO driving modes as well as adjusting gearing and throttle response they are also designed to reduce the effectiveness of the Air Conditioning. If your car hasn’t got a good Air Con system and you need an upgrade.
